Flag Screen Saver

for windows

If you have the built-in 3D Flying Objects screensaver installed in Windows, you can use the file below to fly the flag on your PC's screen saver. Follow these steps:

  1. Download and unzip the "usa_flag" bitmap file into your Windows or WINNT directory.
  2. Open your Display Properties control panel, and set your Screen Saver to "3D Flying Objects".
  3. Set the type of object to "Textured Flag".
  4. Set the Texture to this bitmap file by clicking on the "Texture..." button and selecting the file.

Hit the "Preview" button and tweak the settings to your liking. Note that the wind is blowing to the left, so the flag is attached on its right edge. Microsoft has not provided any way to change this. This uses the built-in functionality of your system and only adds a harmless non-executable file. (Viruses can't live in bitmap files.) The .zip file is very tiny, and will expand to a 300K uncompressed .bmp file. This is because the flag graphic is made up of large, flat colored areas that are very easy to compress.
